Jenny Smith (b. 1981) is a multidisciplinary artist with a strong focus on interactive community engagement, residing in the Southern Gulf Islands (Coast Salish territories, including SENĆOŦEN speaking W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich) First Nations and Hul’quimi’num Treaty Group). Smith's artistic journey began with oil painting, where her work was initially featured in literary journals, such as the Cover of Room Magazine. Following the birth of her second child, she transitioned to sculpture, creating interactive pieces such as 'In Your Hands' (West Vancouver waterfront, 2021) and a Pender Islands community art project (2023) that engaged hundreds of residents. Her recent public multimedia sculpture, 'Cyber Tree,' installed on the Nanaimo waterfront in winter 2025 for the city's sesquicentennial, opened space for discussions about the future of technology.
